tldr it's a fantasy copy machine with Quandries
So, as stated in the abilities section of his app, Jade is capable of cloning physical objects! Having invented it himself, he coined it "fomicry". Using a fonic arte, he can create copies of both inanimate and living things in canon, his most complex hand-made replica to date being an entire human being that he cloned from the dying body of Gelda Nebilim when he was about twelve years old!! .......Granted that human replica would go on to immediately suffer from deficiencies of certain fonons, and become a serial killer who roamed the country for several years slaughtering fonists and draining their fonons to replenish her own, but you know!! Look. We can't all build a perfect human being on the very first try ok--
Anyway, for Various Reasons Totally Unrelated To The Above, Jade isn't normally at all inclined towards actively creating replicas by hand these days; it's easily been over ten years since he last tried. But lately various influences of his cr, alongside the direness of the situation on the ship, have started pushing Jade towards reluctantly utilizing it once more, if only as a tool that might be of at least some help. So!
At some point in the very near future, Jade's likely going to start dabbling in fomicry again, and I figured having a proper writeup of fomicry's range and limitations would be good to have, both for my own reference and a modly one too! This is also going to outline some nerfs I'd like to impose on some aspects of Jade's fomicry while he's in Sail specifically:

At some point in the very near future, Jade's likely going to start dabbling in fomicry again, and I figured having a proper writeup of fomicry's range and limitations would be good to have, both for my own reference and a modly one too! This is also going to outline some nerfs I'd like to impose on some aspects of Jade's fomicry while he's in Sail specifically:
- Normally Jade would be capable of creating a pretty large number of simpler object replicas, and would be more ICly inclined to do so with Especially Useful items like panacea bottles. But I think selectivity in scarcity would be more fun, and would prefer his fomicry not be used as too much of a silver bullet solution to general item shortage problems along these lines, so! In-game, Jade will now be limited to only being able to create seven replicas under normal conditions; upon creating the seventh replica, he would be unable to produce any more replicas in general for a 'recharge' period of four weeks. This limit refers to total replicas in a given round: either he can make 7 panacea bottle replicas, or 4 panacea bottles and 3 holy bottles, or 1 replica apiece of 7 different items, and so on.
- As implied in the term 'replica', Jade can only use fomicry to create copies of things that already exist in his vicinity; he needs the object to be physically present and within reach in front of him to make a replica, since fomicry by hand utilizes a fonic arte that pulls data from the original to build a copy. He cannot retain that data for himself after the fact without the needed fon machinery present, nor can he normally glean anything but the most surface level impression of a given object's composition during the process. (So, he can't use fomicry to get super detailed readings of items like Palamedes does.) Jade could make a replica of a replica, but if the first replica has any flaws they're going to carry over to the next one on top of a much higher chance of new mutations...
- "Flaws" in this case are inconsistencies in the fonic-molecular composition of a given replica. Since Jade's only going to be able to create them by hand for awhile, even replicas of simple objects stand some chance of being flawed, though the chances are lower than they would be for complex items. I might end up using RNG to determine when this might happen at a given time (or have flaws incidentally crop up in occasions where it would be funny/dramatic, etc). Replicas always appear to be perfect copies of originals from a visually physical standpoint, which often means that flaws instead manifest as fun surprises discovered only after the fact! For example: a flawed replica of a panacea bottle might have abnormalities in the durability of the bottle itself, or the effects of the elixir within! Panacea bottles normally cure almost all physical and magical ailments, but maybe one bottle replica ends up only curing paralysis, while another bottle replica ends up inducing poisoning instead of curing it, etc.
- I want to say that Jade's max size limit for replicas by hand is usually the mass of an average car. The more complex the object, the longer it's going to take to copy, the more likely it'll be that the replica has flaws, and the more taxing the process will be; a car-sized cardboard box wouldn't be too difficult, but cloning an actual whole-ass car would wear him out quite a lot! Also, Jade can only create one replica at a time, though if it's a more simple object that's not too draining he could create multiple one after the other in pretty rapid succession.
- Considering his success(-ish??) with creating Nebilim's replica in the past, Jade could still be capable of creating replicas of living things? They would always have a hard 50/50 chance of turning out flawed off the bat, though, and being subjected to the process of fomicry is a very painful and taxing experience that may have lingering repercussions on the body of the original; Jade is very aware of all these possibilities. He would also be very, very opposed to doing it to anything sentient, especially if it's a human being. So, plantlife would give him fewer qualms, and he'd still need some persuading to agree to make a replica of Ody the crab or something, but 99% of the time human replicas would be a very firm IC stonewall.
- Per mod discussion: Inanimate replicas will generally be no issue; animate replicas will prompt a modly coin-toss to see if they turn out evil; sentient replicas cannot be created at all. Not that Jade knows any of this himself, ofc.....
