[So. About a half-day after...a certain event...Rita's insides sure were rebelling hard. Not that it means the sandwich was related in any way!! Estelle ate it and never got sick--and she ate the whole sandwich, rather than a single bite! (And...okay, maybe Rita feels...a little bad Estelle actually got through the whole thing, but hey, what the hell else should they have expected, suddenly adding Rita to the cooking rotation like that?!)
ANYWAY. After a very rough night, she at least doesn't feel like she's about to implode anymore, so she's knocking loudly on the door of 109. Not...to check on its occupants or anything!! Because clearly this was just some weird fluke. No, has topics she wants to bring up to Jade, seeing as they didn't get very far into their discussion at all before...everything else happened.
(She's not thinking about the mugs. She's erasing that from her mind, it didn't happen!)
Also yeah don't mind if she does look a tad worse for wear when Jade opens the door. It's fine!! She just didn't sleep well, obviously.]

[That whole thing yesterday sure was...something, to say the least. Jade's still not actually sure which part of that particular unboxing session was worse, between being quite nearly force-fed a raw egg sandwich and the positively mortifying discovery of those mugs' true properties. (The mugs probably...still win out, in the end. But only just.)
Anyway, yeah, truly an utter disaster of a meeting that time. It'd certainly completely sidetracked the both of them from the tangent Rita's initial visit there had been trying to take...and perhaps, in the end, that really was a rather steep price to pay for it. With that in mind, it's actually not so surprising that Rita's found on the other side of the door when Jade opens it...
But the rather wrung-out state of her person does give Jade just the slightest bit of pause.]
Well, good morning to you! ...Or perhaps not quite, hm? You look as if you ought to be nearer to a bed than anything else right now, you know...
[Naturally, Jade looks pretty much exactly as he always does--seemingly well-rested, already dressed for the day, and not a hair out of place, as per usual. He could...actually take a bit of a guess as to what's probably ailing Rita about now, though. Which makes a question like 'are you alright' rather redundant, all told...but the implication's probably somewhere in his tone anyway, in the way he's arching his eyebrows slightly about now. --Though Jade does open the door a bit wider to let her through anyway, as he steps aside.]
[Yeah, Jade, was it really worth getting out of various explanations for all that?? Rita bets not! (It sure wasn't worth it to her--not that being sick all night had anything to do with--anything!!)]
I'm not tired--are you trying to say something?
[Huff!! He gets a short glower, challenging him to comment any further on how she did or didn't sleep, even as she strides right into the room.
A quick glance about, and she notes Natsuno isn't here. Hm.]
...What about Yuuki?
[Look...she's not saying there was anything wrong with her sandwich...she's just asking where he is, okay?!]
will this convo go any better...stay tuned folks.....
[No, it...really wasn't worth it at all in the end, let's be real. Not that Jade will ever admit as such, of course. (And not as if the arrival of those extremely cursed packages was exactly a planned thing anyway??)]
Oh, no, nothing at all of course. Simply an observation, you know! [An airily unperturbed retort to the huffed challenge leveled his way, as Rita strides inside; a mildly amused smirk accompanies it, but to his credit, Jade doesn't opt to try rubbing that sore spot any further just yet. ...Mostly--] Unrelatedly, would you like some water?
[Since, you know, Natsuno does have that stash of water bottles ke keeps over there in the corner...! Speaking of which. Rita's also going on to ask after him as well--which earns a sidelong glance from Jade her way, as he pulls the door shut and follows her into the room.]
Ah, Yuuki left for the day about half an hour or so ago. ...And went about his morning with no visible issue that I could tell, if you were wondering about that. [Because Jade would bet she was totally wondering about that, specifically--if the very faintly knowing lilt in his tone there is anything to go by...]
[At least they mutually agreed not to dwell on it. Some things...aren't even worth teasing over. Even Rita's too embarrassed over those stupid mugs...
Anyway!! He's sure being his usual self today, isn't it? She levels him a skeptical look, because she knows it's not just an observation, but her pride might prefer not to dig into that any further... She gives the water bottles a long stare, weighing whether or not her pride will let her give into even this small concession...but in the end...]
...Hmph...seeing as you have so much to spare...
[Yes, she'll have water! Since she is...probably a little on the dehydrated side. Not that she'll say so. Anyway!! So, Natsuno's fine--clearly, nothing at all to do with the sandwich (which, of course, she already knew!!).]
I--I wasn't wondering about that, I was...I was just...
[No excuse found, she just lets it trail off. Nailed...it...]
[Dehydration sure is one of the primary ills of stomach problems, as Jade's well aware--so it's mildly surprising but agreeable, when Rita concedes about having some water in the end. Jade passes a bottle over to her without too much fuss, more than happy to also Very Pointedly Not talk about those awkward events of the previous day any more than strictly necessary.
The way she ends up trailing off in that initial retort, though, does have Jade sending another blatantly amused look in her direction, even as he's settling into his accustomed seat by the desk and turning it to face her at length. Embarrassed by the idea of being caught worrying about a friend, is she?]
Well, even if you weren't wondering about that, you won't need to wonder about it any longer now! [To resolve that particular point in the most cheerfully obnoxious way possible, for the both of them! Jade idly leans an elbow on one of the chair's armrests, watching Rita expectantly.]
And now that's resolved...so. Are you simply in the habit of visiting this room for the fun of it, nowadays, or...?
[Of course, Jade could take a few guesses as to why she's here already. Setting aside Natsuno's wellbeing, there's the conversation she'd been attempted yesterday too...but opening with that would simply be too easy, you know? She may as well say it for herself...!]
[She takes the bottle wordlessly and uncaps it, taking a hearty gulp. Ugh...what a night... She'd almost like to say that anything that keeps Jade from talking about yesterday is a good thing, but... Under the incredibly embarrassing circumstances??
Well. Anyway! Whatever! Not thinking about it. She's just going to take a seat on the couch and try to ignore how amused he still looks, regardless.]
...Yeah, maybe I'll just move in. Guess that means you'll have to sleep in the bathtub.
[Her attempt at poking fun at him is probably made less successful by the still-embarrassed glower she's wearing...]
Oh, what's that? You'd even be willing to sleep on the floor, you say? Well, that's quite a bit of commitment to staying in somebody else's cabin, but far be it from me to stop you!
[We sure are very sarcastically breezing right over that bathtub suggestion as if Rita said something completely different, yeah...! Though at least Jade only lets the positively saccharine cheer hang for another obnoxious second, or so--long enough to adjust his position in his seat a little more--before settling back and regarding Rita with a more moderate sort of amusement in the end.]
...At any rate. I do recall you wanted to speak about a few theorems, where my fonic artes might happen to be concerned...before we were rather sidetracked, anyway. Is that still the case? Or are you here for some other reason...? [Look, he's being very generous here, even giving her a hook if she wants it!]
[Well, whatever, he's moving on and she did want to speak to him about certain artes, actually! However...there is a quiet, long moment where she regards him, considering. She recalls (however reluctantly) the face on Jade's mug, how a moving corpse with red hair and and a high white collar was one of the figures haunting her nightmare after the last excursion--thanks, she hated it!!--yet also how Jade had run that zombie through without hesitation to save them, faltering only at the pair that approached him after; his horrified gasp of Professor is still all too easy to remember, like the way his hands were shaking in the rover. She wonders now if it was only the "Professor" zombies that caused that tremble.
...Of course, Rita's also not the sort to like intentionally needling at a friend's trauma and grief just to satisfy a tiny bit of morbid curiosity, and is the answer really that important now? No, not really. If she could actually do anything to help that trauma, it might be a different story, but...well, she doesn't. And something tells her that smashing a captain statue probably wouldn't do all much for him.
So, at long last...]
...Yeah, that's right. [Just going to answer casually as if that long pause didn't just happen.] That meteor spell you used--did you come up with that arte?
[The senile remark is simply met with more obnoxious smiling; she knows as well as he does exactly what he's actually doing on that front, after all, though she's certainly quite free to verbally rationalize it however she likes!
...Even if the rather protracted pause that follows does end up parsing. Oddly. Rita's never exactly been one to conceal her feelings on matters particularly well, but Jade has gradually found that the considering sort of expression settling on her face about now is one of the more difficult ones to read all the same. Clearly she's weighing something in thought, but he's not quite sure exactly what.
For all that...there are a few guesses, to perhaps choose from on that front...
In the end, though, the most "expected" sort of angle is taken...where his own half-guess half-offer ends up being accepted anyhow. Which--it is one of the easiest topics she could possibly pick to throw at him. So Jade's happy enough to accept it in turn, as opposed to pressing her for any more honest reservations; those reservations might still exist, he suspects, but if she isn't about to bring them up herself...then this works just as well in the meantime, now doesn't it?]
Ah, unfortunately I cannot take credit for that particular one. It was in fact an existing spell, when I learned it--very old, however. A forbidden arte, with a rather complex sort of sealing process... [Answering casually in turn, as if that long pause definitely indeed didn't just happen...though there's genuine curiosity in the tilt of Jade's head about here, too.] 'Meteor Storm', it's called. ...Does this arte or something roughly equivalent to it exist in your world, actually?
[It's a much easier topic to focus on--and one she is very genuinely interested in too--especially when digging into just how...unsettling it was that even Jade's hands were shaking would...probably be a highly uncomfortable conversation in itself.
...Yeah, this is better.
In fact, Jade's description ends up being...not at all what she expected. Forbidden arte, really?]
No, not that I know, but if I learned the formula for your version... Anyway, why was it forbidden? It seemed pretty useful to me.
